How to address USB distance limitation in the surveillance equipment industry (USB3 Vision)

New USB3 Vision standard that was introduced in January, 2013 offers significant advantages to its users including: significantly lower power consumption, affordability, higher throughput and bandwidth allowing for higher quality picture etc. to other interfaces. Here are some key characteristics of USB 3.0 interface compared

However with all this new benefits offered to the users, the USB3 Vision has one substantial flaw – the distance limitation.

As can be seen from the Table 1 above even though USB 3.0 is 10 times faster than USB 2.0, it has a distance constraint of about 3 meters.

There are certain cases where you may need to extend the distance between the computer system and the camera. For example, while using monitoring systems in the industrial processes such as chemical, nuclear and other spheres under conditions dangerous for humans, surveillance as well as face recognition systems at the airports and casinos, control of retail systems at the banks, supermarkets and convenience stores etc.

In these cases the USB 3.0 extension (repeater) system such as Adnaco-SU1 system can be used.

Adnaco-SU1 is a simple and affordable solution for extending the cable distance between the computers and the devices (such as cameras) at the distances of up to 100 meters.

The Adnaco-SU1 is the USB 3.0 fiber optic extension system which can operate at distances up to 100 m from the location of your computer. Adnaco-SU1 is backward compatible with USB 2.0/1.1/1.0 devices.

Adnaco-SU1 utilizes only Super-Speed protocol from the USB 3.0 port and using transaction translator (Adnaco-UT1) converts Super-Speed protocol and related signals into full range of supported protocols including Super-Speed, High-Speed, Full-Speed and Low-Speed (USB 3.0/2.0/1.1/1.0).

Adnaco-SU1 supports hot plug-and-play functionality and works with all USB systems and peripherals and does not require any additional software. The system also offers optical and electrical isolation that may be required for highly sensitive equipment.

You can view Adnaco-SU1 data sheet here and purchase the product here.
